7টি বিষয়‘Forbid’ শব্দটি নিজে থেকেই একটি না বোধক অর্থ প্রকাশ করে, তাই এর সাথে নতুন করে ‘not’ ব্যবহার করলে তা ডাবল নেগেটিভ বা ভুল হয়ে যায়। সঠিক নিয়মে subject-এর পর forbid এবং object বসিয়ে সরাসরি infinitive (to + verb) ব্যবহার করতে হয়। বিসিএস প্রিলিমিনারিতে এ ধরনের নেগেটিভ ভার্বঘটিত ট্রিকি কারেকশন প্রায়ই দেখা যায়।
ইংরেজি প্রবাদ বা প্রবাদের রূপরেখা সাধারণত অপরিবর্তনীয় এবং ব্যাকরণগত সামঞ্জস্য বা প্যারালালিজম মেনে চলে। ‘Fools rush in where angels fear to tread’ হলো এই প্রবাদের সর্বজনস্বীকৃত ও পরীক্ষিত রূপ। প্রবাদের ক্ষেত্রে প্রচলিত শব্দচয়ন বদলানো যায় না, তাই হুবহু মুখস্থ রাখা বুদ্ধিমানের কাজ।
WH-word দিয়ে প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য তৈরির আদর্শ স্ট্রাকচার হলো: Wh-word + auxiliary verb + subject + main verb + object/extension। প্রদত্ত বিকল্পগুলোর মধ্যে একমাত্র এই নিয়মটি নিখুঁতভাবে মেনে চলেছে ‘Why have you done this?’ বাক্যটি। বিসিএসে ইন্টারোগেটিভ সেন্টেন্সের স্ট্রাকচার থেকে নিয়মিত প্রশ্ন আসে।
Relative pronoun-এর ঠিক আগে যদি কোনো নির্দিষ্ট noun থাকে এবং তার সাথে the যুক্ত থাকে, তবে সঠিক relative pronoun হিসেবে ‘which’ ব্যবহার করতে হয়। এখানে the shirt-এর পরে which ব্যবহার করায় বাক্যটি সম্পূর্ণ নির্ভুল হয়েছে। বিসিএস ইংরেজি ব্যাকরণে অ্যান্টিসিডেন্ট (antecedent) এবং রিলেটিভ প্রোনাউনের সঠিক ব্যবহার অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
Past continuous tense-যুক্ত active বাক্যকে passive করার সময় object-টি subject হয় এবং tense অনুযায়ী was/were-এর পরে একটি ‘being’ যুক্ত করে মূল verb-এর পাস্ট পার্টিসিপল (V3) বসাতে হয়। প্রদত্ত বাক্যে ‘A letter’ অবজেক্টটি সাবজেক্ট হওয়ার পর সঠিক স্ট্রাকচারটি হয়েছে ‘A letter was being written by Sheila’। টেন্সের এই রূপান্তরগুলো বিসিএসের নিয়মিত আইটেম।
'One of the' বা 'One of my' এর পর নিয়ম অনুযায়ী সবসময় plural noun (যেমন- friends) বসে। তবে মূল সাবজেক্ট 'One' সিঙ্গुलर হওয়ায় এর পরের ভার্বটি সবসময় singular (যেমন- is) হবে। তাই সঠিক বাক্যটি হলো 'One of my friends is a lawyer'। পরীক্ষায় এই স্ট্রাকচারটি বারবার আসে।
